In home décor projects involving drapery, the normal process is to choose a face fabric and then line it with regular drapery lining. This is certainly adequate for décor, but the beauty of the draperies are actually enhanced by adding interlining between the face fabric and the regular lining. An ordinary drapery fabric is elevated to luxury status this way. Interlined custom draperies hang beautifully, and feel fabulous when touched (see photo below courtesy of Better Homes). English Bump cloth is the heaviest and softest interlining of all. It was used in drafty old European homes to provide indispensable protection from the elements. Our homes here in Canada are generally fairly well insulated, but we still lose a lot of heat through bare windows. Continue reading
Nothing says “rich, formal and luxurious” like billowing silk or velvet curtains. Along with a sumptuous look, they lend softness and glamour to the décor of the formal dining room. The curtains and drapes are as important to the interior design of the dining room as the furniture, linens, and chandelier. While the lines and finish of the furnishings are a key element in the room, it's essential to have some fabric to add a touch of softness and luxury. Even if the other rooms of the home do not have full draperies, it is desirable to have them in the dining room to carry a formal ambiance. Continue reading
Residential interior design and decorating in Mississauga, Oakville, Etobicoke, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown and west Toronto has been our forte since 1993. Interior design can take many forms and avenues, depending on the needs and personal taste of the client. We can, for instance, bring a tired interior to life through the addition of texture and dramatic artwork and accessories. The colour palette may be subdued as seen in the grey colour palette in the photo below, and yet, the room is vibrant and interesting. In another, more casual style of room design we may make use of a strong, optimistic colour palette. In the room below to the right we have a room that is essentially all white but with the addition of colour blocks of turquoise overlaid with vibrant art pieces, the room comes alive. In both rooms, the eye is drawn to points of interest and functional areas of the room design are delineated more clearly but without adding obstacles to movement in the space. Continue reading
As fall approaches, embrace the season rather than regret that summer is passing. The weather is still gorgeous and the colours of fall are fabulous. It’s a time to sweep away the clutter of summer, get back to cooking interesting things, and indulge in a little autumn décor. Interior design moves out onto the porch for awhile. It’s great for curb appeal, too. Continue reading

One our clients in Oakville called us in to help decorate her new lakefront condominium in the Bronte area of Oakville last year. She had some very good classic pieces of furniture, and had downsized from a much larger home. It was time to add some colour and comfort and a few decorative pieces of art. We did a paint colour consultation, painting, added a couple of interesting wallpapers, did new custom window treatments in two rooms, added two area carpets, new lighting, and added custom artwork. This client loves colour and was very upbeat and fun to work with. Continue reading
