Window treatments such as draperies, shutters, and blinds are as important a part of your home decor as the furnishings are. Draperies are a significant part of many room designs. They not only enhance the window, but many window treatments create privacy and control incoming light. This adds to comfort and protects valuable furnishings and finishes. Few well designed rooms lack some form drapery window treatment. When draperies are skimpy and hang like rags on the window, the entire room decor is affected. The range of fabrics available today is simple immense. Top quality fabrics and linings greatly affect the way the drapery, itself, will hang. It is the drapery hardware, itself, that often completes the look of the overall treatment. Decorative poles, finials and brackets are the home décor equivalent of fine jewelry on a snazzy outfit. In the wonderful world of interior design, we have an enormous range of products to choose from. When you work with Mulberry Interiors, your designer can offer hardware that is much more interesting than what you may encounter otherwise. You may prefer antique bronze, frosted resin, wrought iron, nickel, copper, silver or gold leaf , dark or light wood finishes. You may even find the range of options overwhelming. How to choose?Traditional rooms may require a dark wood to lend an ambience of formality. A more modern room would look terrific with glass or resin accoutrements. Simple, clean treatments in contemporary interiors may make use of copper or nickel with very simple lines in the drapery.Tab curtains tend to be overused in budget treatments, and since they are usually unlined or lined with skimpy, substandard lining, they tend to hang poorly. Whether contemporary or traditional, a better and more sophisticated look would be a rod and rings. Many times, we have encountered window treatments in otherwise beautiful homes, which lovely people have lived with for years. They simply did not know how to proceed to improve the situation, so they just lived with it.Often the style of finial defines the category that we want to achieve. Finials may be very detailed with carving for a traditional look, glossy or minimal for a contemporary look. Even with traditional style draperies, nowadays we allow them to hang simply as opposed to tied back with the elaborate tiebacks of previous years. The drapery treatment may be functional and fully close over the window, or it may simply soften and enhance the window in a stationary style. Often, it is desirable to use more than one treatment on a single window in order to achieve sun control and privacy, while allowing the window to be completely open at times. In that case we could use a double rod so that one treatment can be layered over another and the desired treatment employed as needed. When windows are constructed in a complex style with angles and arches, the treatment may be tricky to achieve. Specialized rods made in small sections or that curve or turn corners are available. There is now a slight trend toward more formal and more complex window treatments.
