At the end of a hard day at work it’s nice to rest our weary head in a cozy and luxurious bedroom with all the trimmings. We arise refreshed and ready to take on the world another day. Interior design for the bedrooms of your home is an important element in the overall home decor plan. Refreshing your bedroom décor came sometimes be achieved simply by adding a dramatic new piece, such as a headboard, then co-ordinating draperies, bedding, and an area carpet.

serene bedroom with tailored style tufted headboard in grey flannel with white bedding and sequined toss pillow

One of our Burlington, ON clients had us refresh her bedroom decor plan and part of this was a beautiful new headboard. The client wanted a fabric covered headboard and button tufting was a detail that she was attracted to. The result was similar to the room shown below. We also added a button tufted bench for extra seating.Detailing in a headboard can vary in the degree to which it is used. Many times, the body of the headboard is left plain and simple but the detail is in the outline of the piece. Nailheads reinforce the lines of the piece. Velvet is once again a strong trend in interior design. The elaborately shaped  headboard shown below in charcoal velvet makes a strong design statement which is enhanced by the dove grey wall colour. A simpler approach can be just as dramatic, as shown below. The exaggerated height of the headboard lends presence and the button detail and formal chandelier lend a classic touch to the interior design of this room. Touches of black in the room design ground the colour scheme and add a little drama, as well as keep the overall finished look from becoming too pale. The sky is the limit. We could have done the headboard in leather, or even faux leather, as another choice. Upholstered headboards can suit contemporary, clean lined design, as well as more traditional, ornate design. We may have also used a much stronger colour palette. The degree to which we employ colour and shaping in a room’s design is the client’s choice. Often we use textural elements and interesting accessories to achieve greater drama and focus.
