Here in Oakville, homes vary from vast to really quite modest, despite how the media depicts us. Mulberry Interiors has served clients in Oakville and the surrounding area since 1993 and so we have met people from every walk of life in the course of doing business. One our clients in Oakville called us in to help decorate her new lakefront condominium in the Bronte area of Oakville last year. She had some very good classic pieces of furniture, and had downsized from a much larger home. It was time to add some colour and comfort and a few decorative pieces of art. We did a paint colour consultation, painting, added a couple of interesting wallpapers, did new custom window treatments in two rooms, added two area carpets, new lighting, and added custom artwork. This client loves colour and was very upbeat and fun to work with. Even after downsizing, she had retained some well loved accessories and a couple of nice pieces of artwork given to her by her children. The transformation progressed at a modest pace, and gradually the condo became more like home.
One of the first items on the agenda was to find wallpaper for the dining room and powder room. The client had a favourite artwork in a whimsical floral meadow style that her children had given her. This piece needed to fit into the overall design plan.
Because the client loved lime green and had many nice accessories to co-ordinate in this color, we decided on a line drawing botanical paper from England. Colour flow from room to room is generally part of the design plan and we were able to make use of the accessories in her favourite colour.
As the design process continued, painting the entire condo was completed. We used a rich charcoal shade in the living room, and this framed the travertine fireplace and the wood buffet and added impact and richness. The pale stone mantel, buffet, and white sofa and chair had previously looked lost against the white walls.
The classic wood buffet immediately gained presence once it was framed with a rich charcoal wall colour. An area carpet in 100% wool with a floating seaweed motif echoed the waterfront theme that we wanted to maintain. The silver lamp with black shade adds interest against the charcoal wall colour.
The foyer was painted a fresh lemongrass shade and we also install a graphic black and white 100% wool zebra motif area carpet.
The powder room was enhanced with floor to ceiling black wallpaper with a cityscape motif, a new light fixture and custom artwork.
The master bedroom was enhanced by painting the wall behind the bed and the ceiling a rich blue, installing custom semi-sheer draperies, and installing the client’s artwork there.
The den/television room was painted a soft grey green, custom semi-sheer draperies were installed, as well as artwork.
Custom artwork was installed in the foyer and living room as well.
At this point, although there are still some things that we’d like to add, the client was kind enough to write a testimonial on Homestars for Mulberry Interiors: “Wow. My new condo looks absolutely marvellous. So say all my friends. Thanks to Marguerite and her wonderful sense of colour and style I’m now living in my dream space. It was such fun picking all the new colours that make even the older furniture look new…and we’re not even done yet. Looking forward to shopping some more with Marguerite for those final touches.” http://homestars.com/reviews/190859?company_id=2779679. Even her little white dog thought it was time for a party.
